A Family Heritage

Our founder the late Mr. R. Goonewardena started breeding fish when he was 10 years old. The seeds for the passion for breeding were planted then and was cultivated over many a year through persistence and dedication to his craft. He was renowned locally and internationally for his high quality Angel fish which breathed life into a fruitful export business which established the Golden Scalare Business Enterprise in 1987.

Over the years many rare species of fish have been imported and bred by our team, without whom the species would not have been available to other local hobbyists, collectors and breeders. These fish have eventually been exported out of the country.

Today his son and wife who shared his passion for the industry continues his legacy through the original export company, as well as having recently expanded operations to cater to the local retail requirements through The Fish Stop.

We are proud to be one of only three breeders in Sri Lanka allowed to farm corals, which we carry out as part of our efforts to conserve the corals of Sri Lanka.
